Olfactive ID by Parfums Berry reveals the molecular identity of a place: what its materials carry within them, invisible but present, deposited by time. In the crypt of Rouen Cathedral, the process revealed limonene: a molecule released by liturgical incense when burned, deposited on the vaults, impregnated in the limestone century after century. The soul of the cathedral, made perceptible.
Bergamot and cistus open with the light of a stained-glass window crossed by the Norman sun: vivid, sparkling, clarity before density. Incense at the heart settles in like a nave: slowly, with authority. Stone and moss bring that particular coldness that falls from the vaults even in mid-summer. Atlas cedar and benzoin close the composition with the density of long time, centuries of prayers and silence. Rouen Cathedral does not describe a monument. It reveals its soul.
